The second anniversary of Mary Elizabeth’s stroke was yesterday, and I meant to post something, but as you all know I’ve been busy compiling and writing a longer version of this blog with the aim of publishing it at some point. More about that in a moment.
The day was unexceptional for us, but we were both a little reflective about the last two years. On one level, it’s a somber day. Thinking back to that night two years ago which changed everything is difficult, and despite my recently improved outlook it’s still hard to relive that day. One the other hand, this is a very happy anniversary, especially given where we were two years ago. Mary Elizabeth is at home, fully engaged in family life, taking part in physical and speech therapy and continuing to make progress. We don’t forget for a minute that the doctors initially predicted that she would not survive. So we were both reflective and grateful yesterday.
So here’s what’s going on with the book. I’ve created a new blog, The Lifted Veil, which chronicles in a longer form what we’ve been going through. Many of you have suggested that I turn this into a book, and I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what the best format would be and how I could capture elements of plot as well as more philosophical reflections. Rather than simply compile all the blog posts into one long, repetitive and hard to read manuscript, I thought it made sense to write more fully about what was happening in a narrative format. So let me know what you think.
My goal is to have as many people visit this blog as possible and to recreate your experience of reading this blog, but within the context of a more marketable format. Please send your friends, family and colleagues to theliftedveil.com and sign up for update notifications so you’ll see new chapters as soon as they’re posted. I’d like to create a buzz and possibly some interest in the publishing community.
And don’t worry, I will continue to post to this blog as well since it’s a great forum to give updates on Mary Elizabeth’s progress and my thoughts along the way. At some point, the two blogs may converge but that seems a long way off. In the meantime, I hope you’ll follow both blogs and keep posting comments.
Thanks so much for all your kind words and thoughts over the last two years, and please stay with me as we move into the next chapter!
Scott, I am really thrilled you are going to pursue the idea of writing a book. Really, really thrilled! We talked briefly about it a year ago, and you told me there were a number of your friends and readers who encouraged you to do so. Your writing has been a gift for those of us who have been reading it, and it’s an extra blessing to think there will be more.
Much love to Mary Elizabeth, Charlotte, Louisa, Clark, Lucille and yourself,
Judith
Scott,
This is a wonderful idea and I’m glad to hear that you have been encouraged to write a book. Your blogs are beautifully written and I can certainly see this journey turning into a book. Good luck and I look forward to reading future postings. A Blessed Christmas and a Very Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family.
Hi Scott and Mel – I am so glad that you have taken your thoughts and experience to another level. Your blog has been so compelling, heartfelt, and more. I will read with interest the new endeavor which I am pretty sure will be well worth moving to the next level of readership. Was at the Caffreys last night (overnight) and hopefully we’ll all be together soon for a visit. xxoobambi
I was thinking about Mary Elizabeth and all of you as the holiday season is upon us and I remember where we all were two years ago. Happy holidays to all of you and may 2012 bring progress, togetherness and wonderful memories to share for the many years to come. Debby
Dear Scott and Mary Elizabeth – I hope you have a happy and healthy Christmas and may next year bring much progress and happiness. Liz
The Lifted Veil needs a Twitter Feed! Tons of writers, publishers, editors are on Twitter. Anyone who’s anyone really. 😉 And you definitely have time for more social media in your life, right? Right?
